ComfyStudio has arrived.
We are pleased to announce ComfyStudio, an R&D creative studio and artist residency program from ComfyOrg, opening its physical doors in LA this May.
At ComfyStudio we pair working VFX artists, animators, and pipeline builders with the ComfyUI team for short sprints, and develop hybrid workflows that are adoptable and scalable. Every workflow we build gets released open-source, from assets to final pixel.
ComfyUI is already running inside a lot of professional pipelines. The artists doing that integration work are currently figuring it out in isolation, on tight deadlines, with tools that weren’t designed for their world. Those with technical knowledge or AI fluency are having the most impact on the space - but they aren’t the only ones with important things to say. ComfyStudio exists amplify the voices of a diverse range of practitioners and establish adoptable hybrid practices.
I’m also excited to share that Timothy Paul Bielec and I have joined the team as founding heads of studio. We’ve been a creative team since 2017 and have been entrenched in generative AI since late 2022. Most recently, we led model training and pipeline development at Asteria on A Love Letter to LA, Chikaboom, All Heart, and others. From there we went internal at Moonvalley, a fully licensed foundational model company, helping build the post-training team and support real studio-level adoption. I came up in scenic design, character design, and illustration and Timothy is a classically trained percussionist and music producer. We’ve always been committed to empowering artists with AI rather than replacing them.
ComfyStudio’s first call for resident artists is open now. We’re looking for working VFX artists, animators, and pipeline pros who know their craft cold and have opinions about how AI should fit into a real production. You don’t need to be deep in ComfyUI already. AI-curious skeptics very welcome. Link in comments.
